My Question or Issue

I'm trying to recreate my old playlists but can't remember everything, so I'm trying to find the names of the songs by looking at the downloaded songs folder (C:/users/username/appdata/local/spotify/storage). However, this folder contains lots of other folders with hexadecimal names (00, fc etc.) and inside them are files with long strings of seemingly random characters (the files are always prefixed with the name of the containing folder).. Some folders are empty. My question is, how do I find what song each file corresponds to? Additionally there is an index.dat file, but I can't open it with a text editor.

Hi there @koalakoalabanan,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

Content from Spotify is stored as cache and not as files that can be viewed as if you have the actual file of the content in your computer, that's why they don't show the actual name of the song and they're named with rather random characters. These files can't be edited either, therefore you won't be able to open them with a text editor.

The only place you can see the names of the songs is within the app itself.

Hope this clears things up. If you need anything else, the Community is here for you 🙂
