So I've been wasting my time trying to get songs on Spotify that are in the public domain (PD) and their Spotify uploads having the same licensing. the issue i have is that the Spotify system of using 3rd party companies like amused has left room for bootleggers to claim rights on songs that fall under the public domain. i understand how remasters get renewed copyrights but reuploads??? Now... if I've wasted my time correctly obtaining rights for reuploaded content is fraud, and its shocking Spotify both allows this and outsources the uploads to companies that don't even check PD content id, and then allow people to claim this stuff as their own. like i cant stress this enough that that is ILLEGAL. Now this wouldn't be an issue on literally anything else, however on Spotify they are very vague about the licensing each song has, this makes it almost impossible to play a playlist of songs that fall under the PD without getting a DMCA or copyright claim, because there is no way of telling if the song is a reupload or the original PD recording (which it probably isnt). your choices if you are a streamer or content creator are literally post a vid with the song and see if it gets a DMCA, and this doesn't always happen instantly. or just go with it regardless of the consequences. Thanks to Spotify not including a playlist of songs that fall under the public domain licensing you are literally left in a mine field with your only options being violating bogus DMCA / Copyright claims, or some other wacky stuff like stealing the Spotify source code and making your own working version, something with the current state of their licensing transparency you'd think they could care less if you were to steal someone's work and palm it off as your own. I'm literally left with no options here, like sure there's the local file player, yet with it being an impossible feature to find/ use and it not existing on PlayStation it still leaves me with no options. i truly hope i can find some legal binding document that holds spotify liable for all this BS and if i do i promise i will take it further. this music has existed for 99 years, and you **bleep** still cant figure out a way to show the licensing or provide access to free use material you cant even compile a list of audio files from the internet archive you literally don't even have to do anything just download the music to your app give it a name and credits if you want it falls under PD so you don't even have to and that's literally it provided you don't screw up by copyright the material so it no longer falls under the public domain. DMCA and content id was intended to protect content creators, yet i cant even post songs under the public domain without it being abused and having my success threatened. like you gotta do something and if your smooth brains struggle;
* go to the internet archive
*find the list of songs that fall under the public domain
*verify the song falls under PD
*download the mp3's ensuring that the file is either from the original record label or posted by one of the internet archive teams that allow free use of their digitised content
* then do what you do with literally every other song and publish it to Spotify preferably in one PD or free use playlist, you can even separate them by genre or era ikr so fancy
* if you have copyright/PD issues in any countries blacklist the song for that country like you do with lil peep's songs
Its absolutely pathetic i even have to suggest this to a billion dollar company, a company that wants me to pay to use their services, when you give the bare minimum back. but am i really surprised with the way the worlds going.
guys its not hard i could probably do it for you in 2 days or less, heck i could even set up a bot that automatically scans the PD library and automatically uploads songs.
get your stuff together how much longer do i have to put up with this fraudulent system
