Retirement of our Running Feature

Retirement of our Running Feature

Hey everyone, the Spotify Community team here.

We’re here to let you know we will be retiring our Running feature on 26 February 2018.

We always take retiring features in Spotify very seriously. We’re pouring our energy into new ways of creating the best experience for our users.

Of course, you can still workout with Spotify as your Running companion. You can find Running playlists in the Workout section of Browse section.

You can also connect your Spotify running music with an exercise app. Check out our support articles on Nike+ Run Club and Runkeeper for more information.

If you’re interested to learn more about how the app evolves, check out our article about testing and why features change.

Please post here with any questions or feedback you might have. We’ll be sure it reaches the right teams.

Thanks!

Disappointed!!!

Why. One of the absolute Best featured. Dont know How the f*** Im going to get trough cardio now. Very very disappointing

Since Spotify doesn't seem to want my business, I'm a happy new paying
subscriber of RockMyRun!

RockMyRun is actually way better than Spotify's run channels so it's a
pretty sweet upgrade!

I really hate it that this feature was discontinued. Really really really hate it.

Yeah, I don't believe you.

Why oh why oh why??? Come on Spotify - think again

I am truly disappointed to see this feature removed.  When I started running last year I was struggling quite a bit and didn't think I could do it.  My friend told me about the running feature in Spotify and I started using it to help pace myself and keep going when I was struggling.  I got to the point where I ran my first 5k and yes, I had Spotify going the whole time to get through those hills.  I finally put my running shoes back on today and was shocked to find it gone.  I thought it was an ingenious and incredibly helpful feature that Spotify offered.

Also, the "replacement" playlists don't even have an option that I can run to.  I'm a newbie slowpoke still.

Someone said Rock My Run is the way to go. See ya!

Just dropping by to also grieve about loosing this feature. I used it several times a week and one of the reasons I was able to increment my running cadence from 160-180 by following the music. So sad!

Hey Spotify.

Get a clue and cut out the bait & switch!

The running playlist is such a good idea you're still promoting it as a benefit of becoming a Spotify user.  Below I copied the text you currently have posted at support.spotify.com

Yup, it's such a good idea that you are using it to sign up new users and then not giving it to them.

BRING BACK THE RUNNING FEATURE, PLEASE!!

This is the bait & switch copy you're still using to promote Spotify:

Still not on Spotify?

Over 30 million tracks; thousands of curated playlists; Discover Weekly; Spotify Running; Radio; Chromecast, sound system, car, TV, and PlayStation integration; sharing and creating playlists with your friends... All of this is ready for you.

"Of course, you can still workout with Spotify as your Running companion. You can find Running playlists in the Workout section of Browse section."

No, I can't.

"Oh, we have an unique and great feature that differs us from other apps, lets remove it.", Nice work Spotify.

What possible reason could you have for removing this?

I'm literally part way through my run and had to stop to search because I couldn't find "embrace"

It was great to be able to run at a set pace which you could standardise, no longer possible, thanks.

Thank You

So I finally found my favorite playlist "winter run". But:

- No BPM specified at all

- A lot of songs are missing

If you really want to kill the feature (which we still do not understand), why not giving us the old playlists with BPM like:

"Winter Run 155"

"Winter Run 160"

etc.

if there was one feature I was prepared to step up to Premium for its was that I could run to playlists of music that motivated to run to which played at the same speed as my pace. Now there’s just the awful selection that you’ve compensated us with - and what a ridiculous compensation this is - a premium feature replaced with a *****y ‘anyone-can-put-a-playlist-together’. I even bought new headphones just to use this feature (never had a pair of headphones that stayed in my ears to make the most of this feature).

The least you can do is improve the selection of playlists.

If if you don’t, I for one will be going to another music service - probably Apple Music.

What a shame! This was a great feature that i used heaps. Bring it back from retirement like an old boxer.

6 weeks before my first marathon you are taking away one of my biggest training assets...

Can not believe it!

Yeah, two weeks before my first ever half-marathon 😞
