Retirement of our Running Feature

Retirement of our Running Feature

Hey everyone, the Spotify Community team here.

We’re here to let you know we will be retiring our Running feature on 26 February 2018.

We always take retiring features in Spotify very seriously. We’re pouring our energy into new ways of creating the best experience for our users.

Of course, you can still workout with Spotify as your Running companion. You can find Running playlists in the Workout section of Browse section.

You can also connect your Spotify running music with an exercise app. Check out our support articles on Nike+ Run Club and Runkeeper for more information.

If you’re interested to learn more about how the app evolves, check out our article about testing and why features change.

Please post here with any questions or feedback you might have. We’ll be sure it reaches the right teams.

Thanks!

Like so many others, I found the running feature to be the single most useful thing about Spotify. I understand that products evolve, but the substitute playlists left behind are poor, poor replacements. A 5bpm difference in tempo creates a sizable change in pace. Not only was I disappointed to go for my run tonight and find the Running function gone, I also found there was no legitimate replacement. Couldn't you have just turned the songs for each 5 bpm tempo bump into static playlists?

Very disappointed with the loss of this feature. Like many others, I had to dig around to find out why it was missing until I stumbled on this post.

It was the only Spotify feature I used regularly, so there isn't much point in me keeping my subscription now.

Beat running and the possibility to set your own bpm is the only reason to pay money for Premium.

The new genre sucks! Maybe Spotify’s developers does not run but Im sure that a lot of your paying user does.

Listen to your customers!

I'm so, so sad as disappointed, really don't understand the logic behind this decision, your current "running" playlists are trash.
Please bring back the Running Feature! It is the reason I'm using Spotify.

Or I will come back to mp3 deleting my spotify account.

I'm really annoyed about this.  Running was genuinely one of the best things about Spotify.

I've been a loyal Spotify customer for years but you won't get a penny out of me until Running is re-enabled.  I assume it won't be so I'm now looking for a replacement service.

I used it frequently - depended on it even - a few times a week at least. Now, without any communication it's removed.  A post here in the forum is simply not good enough.  It took a lot of effort to find this to find out why it's gone.  (And I still don't understnad why you've removed it?!)  You could have at least brought up a message when I used it recently to say it was going to be removed soon.  Or just don't retire it at all!!

You really need to put this function back! Or at least replace it with something more accurate than the horrible and inaccurate BPM-playlists you have now. As someone pointed out here, I too have been telling everyone about the fantastic running-function, and the possibility to set the cadence (accurately), and now, suddenly it is gone, and it has a great negative impact on my workouts

This is so ridiculous. It was a great feature why remove it? I'd like to see it get re-instated into the app ASAP. Kinda thinking of cancelling my Spotify premium, may as well just take my ipod out running now seen as that's basically all Spotify is now it doesn't have this feature!

Running was one of the main functions of spotify for me. Now that its gone, I will no longer buy premium and recommend others to use google music instead of spotify.

It was nice having you until now, but im not going to stick along while usefull featured get removed without reason while the price I pay stays the same

Just cancelled my premium.

If you decide to CANCEL PREMIUM please be sure to fill the SURVEY and write WHY we did it. Maybe then they will listen to us.

As for now I'm trying RockMyRun and Fit Radio apps. Looks promising.

I am so disappointed in the loss of this feature. I used it several times a week for running motivation. I also recommended it to anyone who asked "what music do you run to?". I am frustrated that even today, I will be unable to open Spotify, load up "Spring run" and head out. I am now forced to find a new app that will personalize my music with my run. What a loss.

This was one of the best features on Spotify! 😞 As a daily runner, this feature kept me motivated and on pace pace during my runs. So sad to see this go..

SCREW YOU!!! This is the ONLY reason I have Spotify premium. I am definitely switching back to Apple Music. Very Upset!!

Agreed. The running playlists you've made available are not even close to a useful replacement

We need this function back! Are Spotify reading this thread? Please listen to your users and give us a positive reply.

You can't do that... it's the only feature that kept me using Spotify.

Bye.

Yep. Honestly debating just ending my membership...

I feel your pain! I downloaded rock my run... It's not the same but it DOES allow you to set a steady pace. Bye Spotify!

The ONLY reason I was testing Spotify and willing to get the familiy plan was this feature that has been taken away... I do not see a good or clear reason in the "explanation"/statement provided, meaning there is really not a good one or not even one at all... dissapointed? extremely, but I guess Spotify will care less about how I and many other users feel... Amazing how the very UNIQUE feature that made Spotify stand out from all the other Music Apps has been removed without consuilting with users (the ones who pay and make the app popular).

Will all of us posting here our feelings and complaints about this really bad decision from Spotify get an answer or reply? I really doubt it, but I guess hope is all we've got.

For any other runners reading, the only other App thay might be useful (and cheaper than Spotify) is RockMyRun.

Happy runs to all 🙂

You really **bleep** the pooch on this one Spotify. Idk who though retiring this amazing feature was a good idea... but they need to be fired.

if this feature doesn't come back, I will start looking elsewhere, like jango.
