Spotify app and Ubuntu 15.04

After upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04 I can't start spotify app. I get this error message:

$ spotify
spotify: error while loading shared libraries: libgcrypt.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I had teh same problem.

Download and install libgcrypt11 from here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/amd64/libgcrypt11/download

After that spotify is starting as normal.

I didn't have to download that version, just downloaded libgcrypt20-dev and libgcrypt20-doc from ubuntu software center. It works fine.

 I also downloaded libgcrypt20-dev and libgcrypt20-doc (vivid versions), but it did not help for me. I also tried to install libgcrypt11 from utopic-security and then spotify started to work well.

I couldn't install libgcrypt11, computer froze while trying. But I re-installed Spotify too - after it didn't work- then downloaded vivid versions. Maybe the re-installation helped too.

I add the repository
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu utopic-security main

Then
sudo apt-get update

And finally

sudo apt-get install libgcrypt11

Adding a repository for a different version of Ubuntu is extremely dangerous, since you'll have different packages from both versions clash on your system. It's particularly dangerous for the updates branch.

Check the new version here http://repository-origin.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify-client/

Or better, change to testing in your repos:

deb http://repository.spotify.com testing non-free

Thanks. But the spotify-client package in "deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free" still seems to point to the old version. Should we just wait for that to be updated, if we don't want to install the .deb file directly?

Yes... but compared to the other option to install an old crypto library manually, I think this is much better...

Vivid has been released nearly two months ago... and this is not mentioning the many months prior where pre-releases where yet available to test; What's the delay?

This absolutely is no solution. I totally refuse to install an outdated version of a crypto library just to get this running. Thank you Spotify for showing once again how incompetent you are. The worst is that the dependecy isn't even listed in the debian package...

The post that was accepted as a solution was not the one about installing the old libgcrypt11 library, but rather the post by MarcosC pointing out that Spotify has posted a new version to the testing branch of their repo that uses libgcrypt20. Also, Spotify explicitly says that this is unsupported software and that their focus for it is Ubuntu 14.04.

Also as mentioned in another post, you can simply change your sources.list to testing:

deb http://repository.spotify.com testing non-free

For me the solution found in this blog post did the trick (Ubuntu 15.04) (resolving the libgcrypt11 issue):

"To fix the issue, just download and install the package from the repository of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

libgcrypt11 for 64-bit OS

libgcrypt11 for 32-bit OS"
