Spotify crashes to desktop when Local File is Played

There are no error screens, no pop ups, just the client dissappears. I select a local file, click play and crash to desktop. I Just installed Mint 18 Mate and I have never gotten local file to play. I tried running spotify from terminal and got a segmentation fautl at the end. All the posts i look up for fixes have libvpx's and ffmpegs that dont exist anymore. I get 404s and newer versions of the software that are apparently already installed on my system.

There is unfortunately not a good solution, but maybe a workaround I linked to in that post.
