Files import, go to press play, client crashes to desktop.
Upon reopening Spotify local files have disappeared.
Have tried clean reinstall.

Local files disappear because the client doesn't have time to flush its state to disk when it crashes, when you try to play local files. The easy fix to this problem is to wait until it has scanned the local files and then quit the client without playing any local file. Then the state will be properly saved and you will see your local file the next time you start your client.
However, that doesn't help you in any way, because you can still not play any local file, without it crashing. Spotify 1.0.x can currently only use libavcodec54 or libavcodec53. Anything newer makes it crash unfortunately. This is a known bug that we want to fix.
There is a thread where people talk about workarounds here. It is for Ubuntu 16.04, but might work for Mint too.
$20AUD BTC bounty for whoever can fix this.

Thankyou!
Applied the fix, it works for Mint too and now local files play without crashing.
