My Question or Issue

I have the exact same issue as stated in this post from 2018. It has been over 6 years and I seem to have the same issue, but I am unable to find a solution. In my case, I use an IEM plugged into an amp, which connects to my Macbook via USB-C for now, but the issue exists when I plug directly into the audio jack as well. I bring this pair of IEM around, which is why I have to constantly change the audio output, otherwise, I wouldn't have this issue. Does anyone know what exactly is causing this issue and what can be done? Or is the solution just "too bad you gotta either restart the program every time you change audio output or just use the web player"?

Hi @Wynol,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

What sample rate are you using? Note that Spotify supports up to 192 kHz, so if you've set a higher one (384 kHz, for example) you'd get the "can't play this right now" error message.

I recommend setting a lower sample rate - that should do the trick.

Hope this helps. Cheers 🤘

I have a pair of old Audio Technica headphones that use Realtek on my desktop. The app plays though all my other output sources when automatically or manually changed, but not with Realtek. I have cleared my cashe, uninstalled/ removed all files and it is on a fresh install. The website version works with all outputs including Realtek. Realtek is up to date, all my audio drivers are up to date. The app works with my Mac book and the headphones/Realtek, and my phones app works fine as well. I am am totally flabbergasted at what is wrong.

This does not help as its not an error message its just not playing through the audio source, to make things even more fun. I learned my speaker can use USB auxiliary. Even then the desktop app still does not play sound through the speaker or headphones. I'm not receiving any error messages, there is not crackling or breaking up of sound, there is no sound being played through the speaker/headphones. All my drivers are up to date, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app a dozen times, I've tried every setting combo under the sun. I'm far past these basic attempts to fix it and its not the speaker of headphones because they will play sound from everything else, from windows media, video games, movies, USB media, SPAM.

Hi @user-removed,

Thanks for the reply!

It's possible that another device has been set as the default audio device for Spotify. You'll find a detailed guide on how to set the correct one here.

Let us know how it goes 👍
