Chromecast shows up on Android and iPad but not on desktop version (Mac OS)

Devices: Android phone, iPad Pro, Mac computer (Mojave)

My Chromecast Audio appears on my iPad's spotify app and on my Android phone as a streaming choice, but never on my Mac desktop. I have to start playing a song via mobile or iPad, and only then it shows up on desktop as active. As soon as I stop playing music through the Chromecast Audio, it disappears from desktop again and I have to revert to mobile/iPad to get the music started again. My Sonos devices work well and always appear on all my devices so issue limited to Chromecast. Any help would be appreciated.

Good news!

You can now find Chromecast in the connect "devices available" menu in the Spotify desktop app and browser web player. Now you can cast your music to Chromecast from the desktop app without having to use the iOS or Android app.

Make sure your Spotify desktop app is up to date
