Playback on Macbook slowed down when I play the audio through an interface

Playback on Macbook slowed down when I play the audio through an interface

When I connect my Macbook M1 Max to my interface (so I can listen on good speakers), the playback immediately slows down (thus lowering the pitch of the song as well). As soon as I unplug it, it returns to normal speed. Why is this happening? It did not happen on my old Macbook through the same interface.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.

Can you let us know if this is happening with other music apps or websites as well, or is it only Spotify?

You can also try going into your Mac's sound output settings and check if everything is set correctly, since you're not using the internal speakers once connected to the interface.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

It's only happening to Spotify. Everything is normal in the Mac's sound
output settings (and to reiterate, I did this all the time with my old mac).

I did find someone else stating that if you switch the sound output to
another device (like my Macbook speakers), then switch it back, it would
play it at normal speed which did work. That is an inadequate and insulting
workaround, however. Why should anyone need to do that every time they want
to listen to music through better speakers? We pay for the service, you're
the only app that has this problem (and lots of people seem to have this
problem on different devices). Why don't you solve it so it doesn't happen
in the first place?

Hey @Escandalo,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

We appreciate the time you took following the troubleshooting process and for sharing the workaround that works for you. We know that it’s not a fix, but it can work while we're checking deeply on this. We've already passed the info to the relevant team to keep investigating this behavior.

We'd suggest having your app updated to be aware of any new changes about this in the future. Thanks again for the report.

If anything else comes up, the Community will be here to help.
