Spotify auto update on Mac/auto startup at login

Is there any way to stop the auto update of Spotify on the Mac?  The newest update (1.0.1.1060.gc75ebdfd) does not allow me to determine were the cache files are stored which is important since I have an SSD and prefer storing cache files in an external drive. One other issue I select "no" for start-up at login and it reverts repeatedly to "minimized".  If there is a way to stop autoupdate I can use the older version which both allows me to determine were I store the cache files and prevents startup at login...................
