Why does my Mac Desktop app start playing in the middle of the night

Why does my Mac Desktop app start playing in the middle of the night

This has happened on 2 separate computers. They both were plugged into a doc with ethernet attached. Maybe once every couple of months, at around 3 or 4 a.m. my computer starts playing whatever playlist I was playing on my phone hours earlier.

Lost a couple hours of sleep again due to this. Is there any idea what's causing this behavior or a workaround short of just closing the app every night?

Hey there,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

If you suspect your account has been compromised, I strongly recommend securing it by following the steps in this article. Make sure to unlink all third-party apps connected to your account by logging in on your account page and selecting REMOVE ACCESS.

Something else you can check is if there are any automatic routines set up on your Mac that may be causing this behavior. But a sure way to further prevent this from happening in the future would be to force-stop the Spotify app process so that it's not actively running in the background.

In the app's settings, it's also worth scrolling down to "Startup and window behavior" and unchecking Close button should minimize the Spotify window - that way, closing the window will also stop the process.

Hope this helps. The Community is here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Take care 🙂
