authentication browser loop: Mac desktop iOs Ventura

I'm running the most up to date Spotify app on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Ventura, 13.3.1 ); my computer was recently wiped and I have had to re-log into all of my apps. The Spotify desktop app asks me to login via my browser (Safari) and I log in; it tells me "authentication complete" and tells me to close the browser. But when I open the app (which has closed on its own in the mean time), it redirects me to authenticate again; and again, and again. What's the fix here?

There are a few steps you can try to fix this issue:

  1. Clear your browser cache and cookies: This can be done by going to Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Then select the time range and click Clear History.

  2. Uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app: This can be done by dragging the Spotify app to the Trash and then downloading and installing the app from the Spotify website.

  3. Try logging in with a different browser: If you continue to experience the same issue with Safari, try using a different browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to log in to your Spotify account.

  4. Check your firewall settings: Your computer's firewall settings may be blocking the Spotify app from accessing the internet. Check your firewall settings to ensure that Spotify is allowed to access the internet.

Hi, I am having this same issue and have been attempting to log into the Spotify app for desktop for over a week, only to be stuck in this endless loop. I'm so frustrated with the lack of help options from Spotify. My laptop is a 13-inch, 2019 Macbook running Ventura 13.2.1. The issue is just as stated above - The Spotify desktop app asks me to login via my browser (Chrome) and I log in; it tells me "authentication complete" and tells me to close the browser. But when I open the app (which has closed on its own in the mean time), it redirects me to authenticate again; and again, and again. 

 

I have done the following:

 

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify for desktop
  • Restarted my laptop multiple times
  • Tried logging in via Chrome and Safari
  • Tried logging in with Facebook credentials vs. username
  • Cleared my cache and cookies
  • Checked my firewall settings

 

What else am I supposed to do if this desktop app just simply isn't working? Really stuck here.

In this case, we'd like to check on some additional details. When you open the desktop app and select the green button, namely Log In. You should be redirected to the web browser for an authentication process. There, you'll need to insert your login credentials, and once you've done that, you should see this:


 

By tapping the green button, namely CONTINUE TO THE APP, you'll be redirected once again to the desktop app. Sometimes the first thing you'll see is a message to try again. Sometimes you'll need to wait up to 15 seconds before your account opens.

 

Nevertheless, we'd like to confirm: is the desktop app opening when tapping CONTINUE TO THE APP, or is it giving you the Authentication Complete message without redirecting you to the app? It'd be awesome if you could clarify this detail for us. The message looks like this:

 

If Chrome is not redirecting you to the desktop app when you tap CONTINUE TO THE APP, we'll recommend checking its settings (Chrome). Under Privacy and Security, go to Site Settings. There, locate Content> Pop-ups and redirect. Once there, under Customized behaviors> Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects. Tap the Add button and add this link. We wouldn't recommend allowing pop-ups and redirects on all sites for security reasons.

I came up a bit late.

But for anyone who had this problem. One fix that worked out for me is to change your country (location) settings by logging in through the browser.

This happened to me when I relocated to another country.

I changed my country to my current location and it worked 👍

I'm having this issue on MACOS (Monterey 12.5.1). I can log into the browser version just fine but when I try to log into the desktop app I get stuck in an endless loop of "Authentication complete" but the app still shows me as not being logged in. I've tried re-installing the app several times and even did a clean re-install of it, but nothing is working. There are no errors showing up anywhere either.

 

Here is the version info I got from the app:

macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.51.345.gcc39d911
