My Question or Issue

I don't know if this is either a Facebook Issue or Spotify Issue but this has been going on for MONTHS and I can imagine that both Facebook and Spotify would be up and running I got good enough internet and I got good Wi-fi connection I key in my personal information right every time I still follow ALL OF THEM but they don't show up on friend activity just the ones that I'm not friends on Facebook with and I'm clearly logged out of Facebook for Spotify and this image is what it gives me every time HELP2022-08-30.png

Hey @dubstepthegamer,

Thanks for posting on the Community and welcome.

At Spotify, we're always working to enhance our users' experience. That's why we updated the Friend Activity default to private so that users have greater control over how their listening activity is shared with others on Spotify. Users that want to make their listening activity public, can turn sharing on in the Settings menu.

So in this case, you have to take into the account the following:

  • Make sure you're following users in the app, not just artists.
  • The users you follow must have enabled permissions to share their listening activity under settings from their own accounts.
  • The users you follow must have listened to a track for at least 30 secs within the last week.
  • You have enabled permissions to share your listening activity under settings.

So, keep in mind you don't necessarily have to connect your account to Facebook in order to be able to see their listening activity, but to make sure every bullet point here applies to your account. We understand you already follow your friends (kudos for checking that!), but take into account they have to enable this permission in settings as well, so it might be worth checking with them if it's on in their own accounts.

Additionally, be mindful of Friend Activity might not update in real time. You can read more about it here and, if the inconvenience persists, you can follow the troubleshooting instructions there.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.

Hey @dubstepthegamer,

Thanks for your reply and for the video recording you kindly sent us.

We noticed you can't connect your Facebook account to your Spotify one. Can you try following these steps? Let us know if you see any difference.

On another note, can you check if your Facebook account is already linked to another Spotify account? To find out, go to your Facebook settings page> go to Apps and Websites> Spotify. If you see Spotify, your account is already linked to one.

Keep in mind, as mentioned before, you don't necessarily have to connect your account to Facebook in order to be able to see their listening activity 🙂

We'll be on the lookout.

I have reinstalled Spotify and it is working a bit better Facebook is up and running but with a few profiles also is there a different way of fixing my problem without having to change those files thanks

Hey @dubstepthegamer,

Thanks for your reply.

We're happy to know that the app is working as it should. Keep in mind that the users you follow must have enabled permissions to share their listening activity under settings from their own accounts. That being said, it'll be worth to check once more with the friends you're following if they enable the option in their account settings.

On another note, would you mind clarifying to us what do you mean by " change those files"? We understand that you could connect your account to Facebook, but it'd be awesome if you could send us a full description of what do you meant and the inconvenience you're facing.

Keep us in the loop!
