My Question or Issue

Every time my bluetooth speaker shuts off automatically it plays spotify and it runs forever in the background. Not a big problem, but very annoying and it ruins the algorithm. Is there a way to turn off the bluetooth speaker controlling the media keys?

Hey @lembas,

Thanks for getting in touch with us 🙂

Can you restart the device and then log out and log back in again? It's also a good idea to repair the devices.

If the issue persists, you can try connecting another device to your Bluetooth speaker. Are there any changes?

Keep us posted! If you have questions, you know where to find us.

I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the device, and it's been like
this for over a year I think. When it shuts off the Bluetooth connection
the computer gets a play/pause signal. So when the music is on it pauses,
that's OK. But when the music is off it plays it, which is annoying. So I
would like some way to turn this feature off, as I can do in chrome. If the
media key feature is activated in chrome, it also plays what's on the
current browser page, like YouTube. But I could shut that feature off
there.

Hey there @lembas

Thank you for your reply.

We would appreciate if you can help us with the troubleshooting so that we can fix this together 🙂

We suggest that you follow the steps that @Ver been providing.

If that doesn't do the trick - can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply 🙂

Cheers!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I promise you that there is no troubleshooting that will fix this issue as I'm sure its an intended feature. In the past year I've done a clean reboot of my computer twice, reinstalled speaker drivers, repaired device, turned it on and off, used it with at least five different computers and phones. As an IT manager this is normal use for me. I'm just wondering if there is a way to turn this feature off?

Hey @lembas,

Thanks for getting back to us.

When your Bluetooth speaker powers down, playback from your PC should automatically pause. Because of the extensive troubleshooting you've done, we'd like to make sure that this is not an account related issue.

Could you try using another account, such as that of a friend or family member, and see if the issue comes up there as well? If it doesn't you can use this guide to transfer your music library to a new account so that nothing gets lost.

If the issue persists, we'd appreciate it if you share the make and model of the speaker, as well as checking if you can replicate the behavior when streaming from another device, let's say a smartphone.

Hope you find this useful. Let us know how you get on.

I tried with another account on my computer and it was the same issue. But
it's not the same when I use my smartphone, then it just shuts off when I
turn off the speaker, it does not turn the music on.

The speaker is a Bose SoundLink Mini, first generation

Hi there @lembas,

Thanks for the info.

Currently there is no way to manually control how Bluetooth devices interact with the app. Different speakers may be affected differently depending on what device you connect to them.

Hope this clears things up. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have more questions.
