My Issue

Recently my desktop app started crashing when playing the playlist in chronological "The Sound of Everything"  mentioned above.  I tested other playlists and the issue is reproduced specifically when listening in chronological/custom order in a large playlist. After I hit play the app plays a song for a few seconds and then closes itself.
This has been an issue for the last month or so might be due to the increased size of the playlist.

 Steps to reproduce
1. Open a large playlist
2. Order the playlist from Oldest to Newest
3. Play any song with shuffle turned off

Hi there @LargePlaylistIssue,

Thank you for your reply and for trying out the troubleshooting that was provided.

Another useful step to try is to remove all lines from your hosts file by following the steps bellow:

  1. Open Notepad as an administrator (right-click > Open as Administrator)
  2. Go to File > Open, and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  3. Choose All Files instead of Text Documents next to the File Name box
    1. You'll see a handful of files, pick hosts and click Open.
  4. When the file is open, you will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like 0.0.0.0 website.com127.0.0.1 website2.com
  5. Check for any entries with Spotify in the address
    1. Examples may look like 0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com0.0.0.0
  6. If you do find any lines with Spotify, please remove them
  7. Save your changes and restart Spotify

If that doesn't do the trick, can you have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member to see if the issue persists?

Also - can you confirm whether it crashes immediately after selecting a song to play or after listening to the playlist for some time?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Take care 🙂

Hi there @LargePlaylistIssue,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the community.

Sorry to hear that you're having such an experience with the Desktop app.

We'd recommend running a clean reinstall of the app. Please follow the steps from this Spotify Guide exactly, as this will assure that all app data is cleared completely, before reinstalling. Sometimes the app files get corrupted and can cause such issues on some devices. We tried playing this playlist with several different sorting orders, but the app didn't crash.

Keep us posted on how you get on with this.

Cheers.

Hello Alex,
even before posting the issue I tried the clean install but reinstalled it from the website instead of the windows app store. Today I repeated the steps and reinstalled using the windows app store.
The issue remains - I am attaching crash reports from after the clean reinstall.

Also today I tried the same thing on my laptop instead of desktop and got the same result.
This makes me believe this is a global issue and not device specific.
