Explanation in List popular songs of an artist

Hello! What does the number been, that stands on the right side when I click on an Artist an see his most popular song list (in the desktop app win 10). Is it how often the song is played or how much people downloaded it or what is it about? There is no explanation...Thx

Hey @Tunhuang, welcome to the Community!

These numbers are Popularity, basically showing how many times that song has been streamed on Spotify at all times.

When you click on an album, you also see Popularity in the thumbs-up column. The bars show how popular the song is recently, and when you hover your cursor over to the bars, you'll see the number of streams.

An example.An example.

Hope this helps you, have a nice day! 🙂

🙂 Thank you!

Why isn't the "Popular" section sorted by popularity? Completely dumb that it isn't. That's the whole point of that part of Spotify, one would assume.

Well, it's a good question, it also confused me a lot in the beginning.

It is sorted... by the recent popularity, rather than all time plays.

It's especially visible on pages of very popular artists - they release a new single, it becomes a fast-selling heavily streamed hit and will appear at the top of Popular on Spotify, despite the fact their previous hits have far more streams at this moment.

What is the definition of "recent"?  Shouldn't this be called "Trending" then?

I still would like a way to sort by the most popular tracks from an artist.
