My Question or Issue

When shuffle is engaged, attempting to play the first song in the Liked Songs playlist will return the error: "Spotify can't play this right now. etc..."

Bug Reduction

  • Issue persists after both app restart and system restart
  • Cache clearing does not solve the issue
  • Only happens in Liked Songs playlist, other custom playlists are fine
  • Different songs produce the same outcome
  • Different order types/filters produces the same issue

Repro

  1. Open Spotify
  2. navigate to your Liked Songs
  3. Engage shuffle
  4. Click play on the first song in the playlist
  5. Click play on any other song in the playlist

Expected

After 4, the first song plays

After 5, the song selected plays

Actual

After 4, Spotify throws error, and nothing is played

After 5, the selected song plays

Attachments

Three attachments, one showing the first song not working, another showing the seconds song working, and finally one showing a different song as the first also not working just by changing the order type.

Hi there @Tzyu,

Thanks for posting in the Community and for the detailed info!

If you're seeing this error message then this can mean that something's wrong with Spotify's cache or the app is using the wrong audio output.

Windows allows users to set a default output to individual apps, so that one program uses headphones and another defaults to speakers. Even if you've set your overall default device to one setting, Spotify might still have a different setting and it's worth checking. In order to see how to edit these settings you can read this article

Keep us posted 🙂
