Friend activity still not updating

I am using the Spotify desktop app (Windows 10) and I only just downloaded the app onto my pc today. My friend activity will not update no matter what I do. 
So far I have tried:
Re-installing Spotify
Restarting my pc 
Logging in and out of my Spotify account 
Changing online mode to offline mode 
Changing the "show friend activity" toggle in settings

I have looked for other solutions, but I can't really find anything.
This problem has persisted for others since 2017?
That's absolutely ridiculous, why is this issue not fixed yet?
