How to troubleshoot local files

How to troubleshoot local files

I have tried multiple times to add Local Files to the Spotify app with no success.  I cannot do it via the settings and adding the folder, I cannot drag & drop (it shows a red circle slash icon), or any other means.  Is there a way to get a log file or error message that tells you what is really going on?

 

Most of the posts on here involve reinstalling the app and that has not helped at all.  All of the songs play fine in Groove, Media Player, and anything else I try, just not Spotify, so I do not suspect a codec issue.  They are not former iTunes files.  All of them are files I have ripped from CDs in the past and retained over the years.

Strangely enough the recent April 2018 Windows update appears to have resolved the issue.
