1. Make sure you are connected to the internet and your connection is solid.

2. Sometimes the app crashes. Try doing a restart on the application:

If you are on a PC: Ctrl+Shift+Esc and choose the spotify application and then click "End Task." Restart the application and try again.

If on mobile: Go into Application Manager and force stop the app. Restart and try again.

I have the same problem. I have full internet connection, and I even tried to reinstall the desktop app - but the problem remains.

Hi.

Have you tried a "clean installation"?

Here's a guide to do it, may differ a bit (I'm on Windows 10)

Uninstall Spotify.

Go to "C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage" and delete everything inside the folder.

Also delete the folder "C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Spotify\Users\<random numbers-user>\"

Reinstall.

Here's installer that should contain a full version of Spotify for Windows:
http://download.spotify.com/SpotifyFullSetup.exe

Thank you for your advices; but yesterday it worked well, with no need to uninstall it and reinstall it.

I have the exact same problem.

It only appears on the Windows application (it works well on the mobile).

I reinstalled the program but it did not solve the problem.

The problem is now solved.

It seems it was related to the USB haedset I am using.

I could repeat the bug by changing my audio settings from the analog output to my USB headset, while listening to Spotify. (Not sure this is the cause though...)
