Local File song won't show new name

Solved!

Local File song won't show new name

How can I get Spotify to use the names I've given to Local Files that I own?

I have a number of recordings that I own, and I want the song names to be names that I choose when I import them into my private Spotify playlist. E.g., shorter or more meaningful names. So I have renamed those files in Windows 10.

When I look at Spotify Local Files on Windows 10, the song names are not the same as the file names I've given them. I've tried changing the Windows file metadata (Properties > Title) and Spotify still won't show the name I've chosen. I've tried closing and re-opening the Spotify app. It still shows the wrong song name.

The songs are located in a new Local Files folder that I created in Windows and then added in my Spotify Settings.

What do I need to change in order for Spotify to recognize the new song name?

Thanks for any help!

I would assume changing the song title under the file's properties would also change the title in Spotify.

After you make this change, try exiting and reopening Spotify twice. This should force a resync of local data.

To exit, make sure you go to File > Exit, or Control + Shift + Q

Let me know how that goes 🙂

Kaworu, you're the best! I never even saw that menu! Exiting twice didn't change it, but using exit combined with unselecting and re-adding the file folder worked. I looked everywhere and couldn't find this answer, so thanks very much!

You're welcome 😄

Glad I could help you figure it out

I have this same issue, but the name does not transfer over to the local files on my phone. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hey @jeeter55,

Thanks for joining the thread!
Have you tried toggling your mobile Local Files off and back on again? If that doesn't help - as @kaworu_bloodpaw has suggested - you can try syncing your data by logging out of the app and then back in twice in a row.

For additional tips on how to manage your local files on desktop and Android - take a look at this FAQ page.
For iOS - check out this one instead.

Keep us posted on how things go! We'll be on the lookout 🙂

I saw those suggestions! However, they didn't resolve my issue.

Hey @jeeter55,

Thanks for letting us know!

In this case, as a last resort, it would be best to try and transfer the file itself physically on your phone and see how things go!
For more info regarding Local Files, you can also check this support page here.

Fingers crossed it all works out!

I am importing local files to an iOS device by importing them via the Files app. These are all cut down versions of a very long show, so the original ~1hr long audio file may be called "FULL SHOW.m4a", but then I cut it down to separate each song into their own audio files and those files were exported out of QuickTime Player as "SONG #1.m4a", "SONG 2.m4a", etc.

However, when I send the files over to my iOS device, all the song files show up as "FULL SHOW.m4a" despite being named "SONG #1.m4a" / their proper names. I have checked within the Files app and they are not named incorrectly there; their proper names appear.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

How do you do this on a phone? i don’t have access to a computer.

I have files that are named their proper names in the files app on iOS however on Spotify are named other names/ their original names and despite logging in and out, removing the files from the folder and back again it will not budge

how do I fix this ?
