Music starts playing after headset is turned off.

Music starts playing after headset is turned off.

My music starts playing when i turn off my work headset (bluetooth connection via USB). I was not listening to music before it was turned on or during. I usually am in a call, so when i turn my headset off after the call the music or podcast starts playing out loud. This is not acceptable since it plays out loud in public settings. I’ve tried various settings, but it doesn’t stop. This doesn’t happen for any other media player on my laptop.

This also happens on ALL my Android phones. It has happened for a long time. Pixel 9 Pro Fold is my most recent one, and it's flat out annoying. ANY headphone (Buds Pro 3, WF1000XM5, Beyerdynamics, etc.) that are disconnected from bluetooth, Spotify opens itself and starts playing. I DON'T EVEN HAVE SPOTIFY OPEN OR PLAYING ON MY PHONE AND THIS HAPPENS! I turned off background data/usage on Spotify, it changes nothing. It's wild that this is still a thing after all this time. Spotify always has bugs and they always deflect the responsibility of it, lol. I just wanted to contribute to the report. I don't expect much to happen. Good luck everyone else.

I have also similar issue. My smartphone starts playing Spotify randomily when I either close the Teams meeting from latop's desktop app (without turning off the headset) or when I turn off the headset. This does not happend all the time, only randomily.

I have Windows 11 Lenovo T14 Gen 5 laptop with Teams. Spotify has not been installed on laptop never and I have never used anyway Spotify with my laptop. Laptop is connected to Poly Voyager Focus 2 headset through the headset wireless USB-dongle, not via bluetooth. Headset is at the same time also having wireless bluetooth connection to my Galaxy S21 FE smartphone which I have Spotify 9.0.50.416 installed. Laptop has not any direct connection or link to my smartphone.

So this has been happening for so long and Spotify just ignores it? Cool. Cool cool cool.

It's extremely annoying and can be extremely inappropriate, e.g. at work or in a public place.

im using oneplus buds pro3 with multipoint connected to pc and phone, every time i put them in case i pause music on pc and then phone starts playing music from speaker, super annoying

I have an HP laptop with Windows 11 and this is super annoying! It starts playing music through the laptop speakers at full volume when I leave the computer and the BT turns off, sometimes it has happened while I was in another room and people told me it happened when I came back, please fix asap!

It never happened to me when using Spotify on Ubuntu, so it must be something in the way the media keys work in Windows, anyway, the issue should be simple: do not autoplay just because a BT audio device was disconnected.

Any updates to this issue? It's been happening to me since 4/20/25 on a Pixel 8 Pro and JBL headphones. Ive disabled everything I can from the settings on the device and Spotify to no avail. Help!

I have the same situation as described here (in Android). I am using my bluetooth earphones for whatever except Spotify (Youtube, phone call, etc.) and the moment I finish and put the earphones back in their case, Spotify starts playing out loud. I have also removed all permissions, turned off all that is possible to turn off in the settings, denied background data and battery usage and still, Spotify manages to start playing by itself. I see this has been reported for months now and is very disappointing to read the responses 😞

Only one thing works: uninstall

Folks, apart from the requested info by @MihailY in this post, it would be very helpful if you could also share a video of the behavior so we can hopefully take a look at how things look like from your end. You can attach it via the Insert Video option in the post editor, or if the attachment's too big - upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure no sensitive info is visible).

If you've not already done so and to help us further, make sure to share the exact steps on how to reproduce this behavior.

Appreciate the cooperation and we'll be on the lookout.
