Opening a link (from browser or search box) automatically plays the song

Hello,

the issue has been reported previously and marked as fixed: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoing-Issues/When-opening-a-link-to-a-song-the-app-starts-playing...

I have to say, that sadly it's still happening, the song starts playing automatically in both cases:

1. Opening the link in browser and then using "open in desktop app" option,

2. Pasting the link to the desktop app's search box and pressing enter (if you don't press it it won't list useful search results)

In desktop app it opens the album view and starts playing the song.

Testing on following link:

https://open.spotify.com/track/5Tu6641sLnvOjNU52k4oaI

Modified so it doesn't expand to the preview box:

https://open.spotify.com /track/ 5Tu6641sLnvOjNU52k4oaI

My app's version:
1.1.76.447.g11f432d8

Hey @Pawulon

I feel it's intended to do that. I'm very much against autoplay in any of its forms as i find it infuriating, and so far I've found that if you're already playing something, then it shouldn't start playing the song you've just searched. Also doesn't appear to mess up the queue or play next lists. 🙂

Basically, opens album view, but does not automatically start playing the song.

The issue seems to have been about Spotify not playing the song that was shared, but the next song from the same album instead. That's how the issue submitter has worded it.

Hopefully this helps!

Hi,

indeed, I misunderstood the original issue.

Good that there's a workaround for that though, thanks for sharing. Now to remember to keep something playing while pasting links 😅

Still find the autoplay useless, best case scenario it saves one click, worst - you need to go back to your playlist or even recreate the queue.
