Opening open.spotify links automatically plays the linked song

Opening open.spotify links automatically plays the linked song

Previously, when opening an open.spotify link, it would show the album view, but not automatically play the song, allowing for any music experience to stay interrupted and to allow the song to be added to queue.

A few days ago, this has changed to the song clearing any kind of queue and automatically playing with no prior input or warning, which makes it incredibly difficult to batch add songs to queue through open.spotify links. Is there a way to revert this kind of change? It's incredibly inconvenient to search the songs one-by-one (or in some cases be unable to find the song due to being an avid listener of japanese music while knowing little about how to read it).

Songs are opened in the web player on firefox if that helps.

Hey @maidpolice, thanks for asking in the Community! ๐ŸŽต

Could you confirm if these are direct song links? I have tried this out, and it looks like if you open direct song links they will be played automatically, but not playlist or album links.

One way to stop this is to use extensions or browser features. In some browsers, you can avoid autoplay of media content when the page loads. However, this might still play the song, but then disable it or pause it. Use any autoplay blocking extension at your own risk and browser features may vary, but it looks like autoplaying the song if you open the link, is the expected behaviour.

If you have an idea, feel free to suggest it on our ideas board.

Please let me know if you need help with anything else. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi! These are direct song links, yes. This wasn't a behaviour that has happened in my ~2 years of using spotify, hence my assumption of it being something recent or a bug. Am I right to assume that outside of outside interference like the browser feature/extensions you mentioned, there is no way to fix this?
[edit: having a look at extensions, it appears such an extension does not exist, but I am not experienced in using extensions that much at all. I can't even use the app to add links because for some reason, it is not synced to the web player despite being logged in on the same account. In all honesty, I've given up on the app due to that.]

Though I have noticed that negating this feature specifically on the mobile app has been suggested as early as 2021, so suggesting it again feels a bit redundant or at worst, ignored.

Thank you for your response. :]

Hey @maidpolice,

Thanks for the reply and the info!

At Spotify, we're often testing and launching improvements to the app. This means you might occasionally see something your friend doesnโ€™t, or get a new feature to try temporarily. Your feedback on this is important, thanks for sharing it here - we appreciate it. In the meantime, make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.
