Playing downloaded tracks when not in offline mode

I read the Spotify Offline Help but I want to know if OFFLINE mode is off, will Spotify use any downloaded music over going to the internet? In other words, I have the track locally - don't use the internet to play it - play the local version.

... or is downloaded music only played if offline is ON?

Absent of a comment I guess I can download - leave offline off, then disconnect the internet and the track should still play. (suggesting if it doesn't get interrupted then it was playing the local version).

There is a case to be made of "discovery" but if we create playlists and can have up to 3333 songs locally - why not revert to them? It saves bandwidth. All adds up - gaming/Netflix/spotify etc etc.  If not a feature today then I could add that as an idea.
