Re: Songs going silent on desktop (web browser version)

Re: Songs going silent on desktop (web browser version)

I've seen this exact issue talked about on the android app, but nothing on desktop. Whilst playing songs, the audio will randomly stop, whilst the bar below the pause button acts like the audio is still playing. Before, rewinding to a part where audio had played would work as a temporary fix, but now the audio just stops playing at the same part no matter how many times I rewind. When I skip to the next song it plays like normal (unless the same issue happens halfway through a song again, which it has). It's been happening with more frequency lately.

Update:
Hi,

sorry for my late reply. I've tried clearing cookies and cache from the website, and using different earphones/ headphones, but the problem persists. This happens with multiple playlists too, or when I've made my own queue of songs. Recently, I tried to rewind the song I was listening to in order to avoid this issue and it worked. However, this only worked once out of the many times that it has happened in the last few days. I'm not sure if this means it is an issue with spotify taking too long to load the audio of songs up to a certain point?

I have the same issue as listed above, follows all of the 'clear cache' + 'clear cookies' advice. It is very silly that I have to go to Youtube to play music, when I pay for Spotify Premium. Has a fix been identified?

Hey there @bmo_6 & @niliu,

Just to confirm, does this happen when using an incognito window in your browser?

Also, could you check if you notice any difference after clearing host files from the device? You can do so by following the steps on this page.

Should the issue persist, however, a video showing how things look from your end would be helpful, so that we can have a look as well. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Let us know how you get on.

Yes, this issue also occurs when using an incognito window

Hey @bmo_6,

Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried the suggestion about clearing your host file above? You can also try the following:

  • Use a different connection.
  • Log into a different account.
  • Update/Reinstall your sound card drivers.
  • Start your PC in Safe mode.

Let us know how it goes.

i've tried clearing my host files for spotify but i don't seem to be able to do it - the only thing that opens is a 'sample' from windows, not the actual host files on my laptop specifically, even when I opened notepad as an administrator. I don't think I have the access needed to make these changes.

This issue of audio not playing also occurs when using a mobile hotspot for internet.

In regards to drivers, I've checked that my laptop is fully up to date, and do not know enough about computers to be able to uninstall and reinstall the correct drivers without potentially causing another issue with my laptop. I'm not sure the issue is sound drivers either as this issue has never occurred on any other app or website in the whole time that i've had this laptop.

I haven't yet tried starting my laptop in safe mode.

Hi there @bmo_6,

Thanks for your reply and for trying out our recommendations.

Just to check, is this a personal computer? Or is it maybe a company-issued device? Also, could you try installing the Spotify app and check if you have the same issue there?

On another note, go to your Account Overview page and Sign out everywhere. Additionally, remove access to all the apps you've connected to your account from here. You can easily reconnect your apps anytime. Once done, log back in and check if that makes a difference.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
