Settings Don't Affect the Desktop App

My Question or Issue

 I have changed the setting on my desktop app to not show the desktop overlay when adjusting volume about 8 times, and even though it saves in settings, and when I go back to settings to check it's off, I still get the desktop overlay. Similar issue with the open on log in feature. I have resaved it to not open on startup several times, yet it still does. How do I fix this?
