Spotify app crashes after pressing "play"

Hi! I saw a thread discussing the issue I am having, but it is locked. However, the issue still persists for me.

My Question or Issue

Every time I open the Spotify desktop app, it opens fine (albeit slow) but whenever I want to play a song that's already paused or play a new song, the app will close down without any notice upon pressing the button.

It does not display any error messages or anything.

I am currently using the free version, but considered getting premium, though if the program doesen't run properly, I see no point in paying.

Thanks for reading my post, if there is any fix for this I might have missed, please show me, since I'd love to return to listening to music.
