Spotify desktop app stops playing when entering games

So I've been using Spotify for ages now, never had any problems with it. Since yesterday, whenever Spotify is playing and I enter a fullscreen game, the track stops and then proceeds to stutter-skip through songs until I pause it. The app works fine when I'm not playing anything but just stops whenever I do, which is really annoying. I tried the web player, which works, but I'd like to get the desktop app to work with it. The two games I tried this with is Starcraft II and Civilization 4 (the latter through Steam) with the same results.

The error message I usually receive is "Spotify can't play this right now, if you have the file on your computer you can import it". Sometimes the app just shut down. I use an MSI GF-65 laptop for games, currently connected to Logitech Realtek speakers.

Steps I've tried:

Uninstalling Spotify completely with the app in the subreddit's FAQ and then reinstalling it

Changing the default audio device (makes no difference)

Troubleshooting audio problems

Restarts to both computer and apps

Disconnecting the laptop from all audio and video devices

Would really like your help. Thanks in advance!
