My Question or Issue

Windows Spotify failed to open since a Windows update a few weeks ago, I would reinstall Spotify and then it'd launch, but after restarting/switching off computer, Spotify would not launch anymore unless I reinstalled it. I Googled the problem and someone suggested to install Spotify for Windows through the marketplace built in Windows 10 so I did that, it worked fine for a week or so but now that version of Spotify will not launch anymore either, so annoying! Anyone have any suggestions before I move to Google Music.

As an update, this is actually not a Windows update causing this conflict since I did a system restore and disabled Windows Updates, this is the latest version of Spotify causing the problem. If I reinstall using the web downloader, Spotify opens fine, then after a few minutes Spotify offers an updated version and asks to restart, upon restarting Spotify is where it fails to load anymore until I reinstall again using the web downloader.

What the heck is going on Spotify!!!

Hey there @nuggetnik,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Community!

In this case, we'd recommend trying a clean reinstall of the app on your Windows 10 device.

Keep in mind that you'll need to follow the steps below to do so:

  1. Click the Start button. Select Settings.
  2. Open System.
  3. Click Apps & features, then select Spotify.
  4. Click Uninstall. Click Uninstall again in the pop-up to confirm.
  5. On the Start search bar, type %AppData% and hit enter. This should open up AppData\Roaming.
  6. In the new window that opens up make sure there's no Spotify folder showing up. If there is, you can delete it.
  7. Make sure that there is no Spotify folder left in AppData\Local  (or C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage) as well.
  8. Head here and click Remove all devices.
  9. Turn your device off, wait a couple minutes and turn it on again.
  10. Download and install Spotify from the Windows Apps store.

If that doesn't do the trick, we'd suggest making sure your device has installed any pending OS and firmware updates. Further, let us know if this happens:

  • If your Windows 10 device is connected in a different internet connection
  • In a different desktop device

We'll be keeping an eye out for your reply 🙂
