Spotify stops after each local song

Solved!

Spotify stops after each local song

Hello,

I've got a problem with playing local files in spotify. After each song it stops playing. This weirdly enough is only the case for local songs and not for steamed songs.
I think it might have something to do with a windows update. When I found out, two days ago, I recovered my system to the state before the windows update, and then it worked again. Last night it automatically updated windows and same problem of not continuous playing occured again.

Someone with a solution? It is really annoying!

Cheers!

I previously posted this issue is solved for me by upgrading to Windows 8. Guess what!? The problem has come back for me just after a few weeks.

I'm suspecting Ace Mega Codec Pack has something to do with it, since I installed it last week and I noticed the problem first today (not listened to local files since then).

So PLEASE Spotify, try installing Ace mega codec pack (found here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/ACE-Mega-CoDecS-Pack.s... and se if you now can reproduce the error...

I can also offer a number of tracks that are subject to this bug, and will not play if they are next in the queue.

Please keep us updated on what is going on with this issue on Spotify's end.

+1, same issue.

Local files are mp3s purchased off Amazon MP3 and sitting on local drive, I have Spotify Unlimited 0.8.5.1333.g822e0de8, acceleration/crossfade/etc. off.

Win7 64bit, no problems in other apps e.g. Winamp.

Starting song by hand also helps (e.g. Song 1 plays, Song 2 gets stuck in "playing" state w/o progress - start Song 1 or any other song manually and it starts, start Song 2 and it starts too).

The latter would seem to indicate that it's not some codec problem but very much a Spotify problem. Why don't you guys look at the differences in the code that starts a song from UI vs when going to next song?

The problem seems to be growing.  I'm getting emails alerts telling me people have added comments to this thread at an increasing rate.

Add me to the list of people experiencing this issue now as well... Used to work fine >< Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.

What happens if you don't have the Ace Mega Codec Pack installed?

For users experiencing this issue on Windows 8 - We currently do not have any official support for this operating system, so any issues may just be down to incompatibility at present. But regardless, I'll chase down the appropreate esclation and request some further updates now.

Sadly it's not just here - I've tested this on my home laptop with no success. And that machine is far from magical.

David, out of interest, which OS do you have on your home laptop, and which OS have been tested at Spotify HQ?

I've been a Spotify Premium user since just about the start and have used local files with Spotify since that became possible. I've always used Spotify on my Windows Vista Home Basic OS PC. Local files previously played fine. So it seems that the issue has been caused by either an update to Windows or an update to Spotify. I know that's not very specific, but if we can ascertain which OS this DOES work with then that should provide a decent starting point.

People throughout this thread have said they have experienced this on a number of platforms, but it seems to have narrowed down to Windows machines. But since you asked -

* iOS 6.0

* iOS 6.0.1

* Android 4.1.1

* Mac OSX 10.7.5

* Mac OSX 10.6.8

* Windows 7 64-bit (on my own laptop)

* Windows 7 (running via Boot Camp on an iMac)

I'm not too sure what our second line support might have tried in addition to this, but that's personally what I've tried it on.

OK thanks, so I wonder does it work on any Windows prior to 7? Looking to upgrade my destop computer in the New Year, so that might provide a solution for me, although I note Spotify not fully compatible with Windows 8 yet.

Hi guys,

We're just trying to get as much info on this as possible. Could you guys tell me what type of file is refusing to play? Do you have Gapless Playback and Crossfade enabled?

Who's your Spotify Star?

For me I had Gapless on so I turned it off and still the same thing. I didn't have crossfade checked. Also regular MP3 files as far as I can tell, m4a won't even play without Quicktime installed but I don't want to install Quicktime 🙂

Yeah, it's not related to gapless or crossfade, doesn't work whether selected or not. My files are MP3.

Cool. The more we hear back, the better. I'm passing all this onto the relevant team.

Hi Sam,

MP3 files won't play.

Changing settings does not affect this bug.

Hi Sam, same as what the previous posters said. Changing settings in Spotify does not solve the problem. Files are MP3.

I'm sure these questions have been answered earlier in this thread before...

the local files that won't play for me are mp3's. some downloaded, some ripped. all have worked before. none of the suggested "solutions" work, and won't work regardless of settings.

I'm wondering how many others have applications, media players or have directly installed "encoder/decoder" packs. I believe Spotify to be very sensitive to situations where "encoder/decoder" packs have been installed other what they expect to be in a base Windows install. Several posters have spoken to doing fresh Windows installs and the "problem" clearing up. One spoke of adding an encoder pack and the problem resurfacing. - W

for the record, my problem only started when I reinstalled windows 7 and spotify.

Why did it take so long for this problem to be reported to the right team?  This is ridiculous.  This problem has been around for months (as evidenced by the multiple threads on the board and tweets to SpotifyCares) and theres no way you guys have been unaware of it.  Could some higher up from the company please issue an official statement?  How do you guys expect to compete with other streaming services (and Apple for that matter) with such embarassingly bad customer service?

I fixed this problem but I don't know how 😞
