Stop playing the selected song in Spotify?

Is there a way to stop the music in Spotify so that the "Now Playing" banner at the bottom dissapears? In iTunes, you can do this with the shortcut "CTRL-Period" (or "CMD-Period" if you're on Mac). Is there a similar function on Spotify?

If you're looking for a keyboard shortcut for pausing music in Spotify, then in active app you can hit the spacebar to play/pause a song.

Spotify keyboard shortcuts are not universal though, so to toggle playback in this way you have to activate the window.

But if you have function keys (laptops especially), they can do the job.

Same for mutimedia keys, if your keyboard has them.

There's also this app for hotkeys called Toastify which might be useful. If you can't understand how to get it working, someone wrote "Instructions" under "Discussion" section.
