Why doesn't spotify support importing from .ogg files?

I hear when spotify uses the .ogg format for music. But you can't import music from your local files to your spotify if it's .ogg? That seems very dumb. Why do they not support .ogg files? I just want to listen to the music I have downloaded, but because most of them are .ogg, I can not. Will they ever add support for .ogg files?

Yea, I've recently started ripping all of my physical media and I prefer to use the open ogg format. I just tried to add all of my local media and nothing shows up.

Rather surprised four years later and and local library still doesn't support playing .ogg files.

It's the most ridiculous thing I've seen. How difficult is it to add ogg support? It's natural and sensible for a platform that uses ogg for streaming to support ogg for local files. It boggles my mind that this format is not supported by Spotify while most media platforms support it.
