My Question or Issue

Hello, when scrolling through the discography, if I open and close the lyrics for the particular song I am on, the application jumps to either the playlist that the song is in or the artist's front page if the song was selected from that artists page. I don't know if this is expected behavior or not, but I like to be able to scroll through albums for an artist and choose songs, and if I click the lyrics it's annoying to have to go back to where I was.

Steps to Reproduce

Method 1:

Open an artist's page and play any of their songs.

Hit Show all on discography

Scroll down

Open and close the lyrics

You should now be back to the front page for the artist.

Method 2:

Play a song in a playlist

Go somewhere else, whether that is a different playlist, an artist, etc.

Open and close the lyrics

You should now jump back to the playlist for the song playing

I feel that the app should take you back to your original context instead of jumping to the playlist or the artist's front page for the current song.

Thanks,
David

Hey @dsmith00,

Thank you for keeping in touch.

After some investigation with internal teams, this behavior seems to be expected as mentioned in this thread. We can also confirm that we’ve passed this feedback to internal teams as well. So at the moment, we'd recommend having your Spotify app updated to not miss any improvements coming your way.

Hey @dsmith00,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

To make sure we have all bases covered, would you mind confirming if you've already performed a clean reinstall of the app? If not, we'd recommend following the steps mentioned in this article.

Also, would you mind checking if it happens in the Web Player as well?

Lastly, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi Oscar,

Thank you for your reply. I have taken steps to troubleshoot the issue including a reinstall of the app. This behavior is reproducible from the web player. My version is as follows:

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

1.2.62.580.gb27ad23e

Thanks,
David

Oscar,

I appreciate that information, as well as submitting feedback for me. Have a great day.

Thanks,
David

As of 07-03-2025, this is still an issue. You shouldn't have an artists discography/track listing closed just for looking at the lyrics of a song. Really annoying.

If you click on lyrics while on an artists discography and then click off, it reverts to the artists main page. This should be fixed so that it goes back to where I left off on their discography.

This is very very irritating...even in the app on any device this happens...it is literally so disturbing that I am redirected to the artist's album everytime I close the lyrics to a song. Then, once again I have to go back to my self-made playlist and scroll all the way down to the song I want to play next. Please  fix this. You are taking a lot of money for Premium. So, give us the premium feel.b
