Making spotify the default music player ANDROID

I want to select spotify as my default music app so I can listen to songs that aren't available on spotify. I've tried everything and youtube videos etc. weren't very helpful... 

It works on the desktop version but not on my phone.

The only way mobile spotify can play your own mp3s is if they are added to a playlist on your desktop client and the playlist is made available offline on your mobile. There is no way to tap a mp3 and have it play in spotify.
