Add support for Google ChromeCast

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.

Please see the Api information here: https://developers.google.com/cast/

Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:

 - You can stream higher fidelity

 - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop

 - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)

If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.

Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...

Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice

Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

Updated: 2015-10-22

In collaboration with Google, we’re thrilled to announce one of your most requested features here in The Spotify Idea Exchange is here. Spotify now works with your Chromecast.

With Chromecast, listening at home is easy. Simply plug in and cast music directly from your phone or tablet. Play, skip, browse and search using the Spotify app--all Spotify users will get the on demand experience on Chromecast. Oh, and feel free to make calls, watch a video or play games - the music will keep playing. Even if your battery runs out.

To learn more about how you can listen at home, head over to www.spotify.com/at-home.

It's all aboard the good ship Play Music then, bye bye Spotifye!

Not sure why this is a "not right now", is it because of some "tactic" against Google play/music ( or viceversa )?

I absolutely love spotify ( been premium ) for a while.

If there is NO traction on this anytime time soon, from previous posts it seems that Google Play is a BETTER option. I am going to start playing with it

Spotify Devs, prove us wrong.

Add me to the list of disgruntled Premium Spotify users who want need Chromecast support.

Pandora or Play?  That is the only question I'll ponder a bit before dropping you, Spotify.

EDIT:  Decided to follow my New Year's resolution, and not to put off until tomorrow, what I could do, today.

Thanks for a fun 2 years, Spotify, but most of what I listen to is local tracks anyway.  I can do that on any platform.

Pro-tip---cancel the PayPal authorization, instead of waiting for the renewal date if you want to use up the rest of what you paid for.  That way, it will simply decline when Spotify goes to bill your account next month.

Still no reaction from your side Spotify... I'm indeed a little disappointed.

Please provide us with an update asap!

It's honestly not very difficult to implement. They already have an inter-device communication network that pauses your other devices when one starts playing. Also, they have an entirely web-based player that would drop into chromecast as is, but would obviously use a new layout/design that is remote-controlled.

How can you ignore between one and five million chromecasts?

I just want to say, as with many of these people here. Farewell Spotify. It was a nice two year run for me, but the complete lockout on mobile devices, the high cost, and now you won't even let me do the stuff, that nearly EVERY RIVAL does. I'm going to google play. I just wanted to say, thanks for the last two years, I enjoyed it. But Do yourself a favor. Sell the company now, while you can. Refusing to modernize, is the fastest way to die.

I just cancelled my subscription to spotify as well.  Google play all access has more features including chromecast for the same price

Imagine using spotify to play music through your central sound system during a party using just your smartphone, and letting everyone know that they can seamlessly contribute to the playlist as well. Just amazing!

Pleeeeease add chromecast support. Pandora and Google play music both have it, and it's making me wanna switch services!

I bought my receiver for the reason it has Spotify built in, problem is, its a big burning pile of **bleep** interface so since Chromecast has came out, I have been waiting patiently. Unless I get a firmware update and get Spotify connect or Spotify releases a Chromecast comparable app, I cannot see staying with them anymore with all the other options out there. The Google play all access was pretty good during the free trial, so I think it is time to start giving Google my $10 a month.
