Add support for Google ChromeCast

Status: Implemented

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.

Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:

 - You can stream higher fidelity

 - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop

 - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)

 

If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.

 

Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...

 

Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice

 

Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

Google play music is seamless on the Chromecast. Please please don't give me a reason to switch. The sdk its still Beta but devs are making apps, just waiting for Google to allow distribution. Please tell me you are on top of this.

I love pushing music to my Chromcast and would rather use Spotify. Please make this happen.

Would be a great feature. Recently switched from Pandora One to Spotify.   This would be a great addtion to Spotify, and would align with with their business model (but not Google's, but kudos to them for the SDK).  I'm sure there are DRM issues to iron out.

 

Since it is browser based, Pandora continues to work.

I've owned a Chromecast for a few days and already noticed I've been using using Google Music All Access (the trial) instead of Spotify Premium over the past few days.

 

Being able to use the original app rather than an awful remote to queue up music makes such a difference. Given the popularity of the device, it would be a smart move to be the first non-Google music service out of the gate.

Please add chromecast capability. I've been a member of Spotify premium for over a year and it kills me that I have a subscription to Google Play Music just because it works with chromecast.

Don't know if people are aware of this or if it has been brought up before but it is worth repeating anyway:

 

Until Spotify start to support the chromecast-device you can use chrome and go to play.spotify.com and share the spotify tab. This way you can play your spotify music on TV-speakers. This is of course not a optimal solution since it lacks the ability to change music from several devices but at least you dont need to use a cable to connect your soundsystem.
