[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

I followed through and cancelled our family plan anyway, because they still employ whoever made that out-of-touch idea to get rid of the widget.  Someone at Spotify must have thought paying customers loved their service so much that they could be abused.  We don't want your toxic advertising and politically woke suggestion campaigns.    Glad to see this thread is currently unlocked, I heard this thread or one like it was closed to commenting earlier.  On the bright side we're enjoying Youtube in the background with with no ads now.

One thing I noticed during this whole scandal is the number of idea exchange posts that started with "bring back". I'm glad the widget is returning,  but frankly I have lost faith in your ability to understand what makes the best experience for your users,  so I my subscription is still set to "not right now"

YES! I am happy people at Spotify listen to their customers! Even though they could have communicated it better and sooner, the overall result is positive. Thank you to everyone who voted and commented here or on Twitter or any other communication channel. I'm waiting for the next update of Spotify on Android and I hope I won't be dissapointed. Thanks guys, we made our voices heard!

Okay- just a second, professor. What "improvements" are being made to the widget? We need it back, just like it was. It's a simple widget. Click the controls, display the cover art that opens the app if we click on it. Don't get fancy- it doesn't need your recommendations (ads) or anything like that. Bring it back, don't **bleep** with it.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE ONLY READING REPLIES IN THE EMAILS..... The Widget is coming back!

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback.

We value your input and ideas, and wanted to let you know that we have made some improvements to the performance and visuals of the Android Widget. We will be reinstating it in an upcoming release on Android.

We’re always evolving and improving our app in order to provide the best experience, so keep watching this space.

Not sure what improvements you are inferring too because it didn't need any. It should be put back the way it was, and it better not force more ad's on PAYING customers. Once I get the widget and performance, the way the Spotify app was then ill resub. Until then, this falls on deaf ears.

Everyone should rate the app 1 star until they bring it back.

Edit: they're bringing it back!

  • Making the widget better and then update, would have been a better approach. (Although I liked it the way it was) I'm leaving spotify if the widget does not come back soon. I've been a customer for a decade... never been soo disappointed in ANY app after an update change. Whoever made that decision should be fired. I dont know if I will ever recommend spotify to ANYONE ever again, even if the widget does come back. 130+ pages of straight complaints is embarrassing.

Sad to see such a great app go to trash overnight

I hope the "improvement" is ability to launch selected user and/or public playlists from the widget. That'd be nice.  🙂
