[Android][Other] Integration of Spotify and BMW Connected Drive - Android

So this idea has been implemented for iOS, can we see some Android love please???

The Connected Drive app is available on the Google Pllay store but it's only showing integration with Twitter and some other parts of the phone, would love to see Spotify added to this!

Hey everyone, the new 2016 BMW 7 Series is here – with Spotify built in. Pair your Android (with the Spotify app 3.8.0 update or above) to control music straight from the dashboard.

Due to Android OS phone manufacturer compatibility issues, the Spotify integration currently only works with the new 2016 BMW 7 Series. We are working hard to enable Spotify for all compatible BMW Connected Drive and Mini Connected vehicles.

Hey everyone!

Here's a link to the new post I created. I'm trying to centralize everyone who is having this problem, so head over there to vote and comment if you're still having problems.

I got my new iPhone SE from my company yesterday. Installed Spotify and the BMW Connected app, plugged it into my F20 via USB and voila, Spotify working like charm on iDrive. It's very sad that noone cares about Android.

There is a new Software Update availlable at the BMW Wegsite for several Models. For my 2014 F20 its UPD07032. The Newest one is UPD09031. Also the Connected App was recently updated to 5.x.

Could you guys update your BMWs and Phones and report if there is any improvement? For me, Spotify still does not show up in the iDrive (i dont have apps over BT).

Im all up to date and im still exactly as I was..nothing .
I watched a review on the new BMW X2. Apparently it has Apple car play but
nothing for Android.! So maybe it's not a Spotify issue but a BMW one.? Why
one but not the other.? Android outnumber apple by a huge amount.! Apple
backhander ??

Does anyone know if it ever worked with:

- any version of android

- any version of the connected app

- any version of Spotify

I did some experiments with different versions of the connected classic app (1.7 and 1.8) and several major versions of Spotify.

It seems if you install the latest connected app and Spotify 3.9, Spotify at least appears in the connected classic app.

If it appears, I think it must have worked at some point with Android devices or am I wrong?

Can anyone confirm that it ever worked?

Hi there. I can confirm that it once appeared on my car, but it crashed
when it connected!
I heard from BMW that they are catering for the majority of their customers
who own iPhone!
What a cop out!
I have just had a rant on a BMW i forum and told them that they need some
Android love.
I have the BMW i3... Supposed to be a car built from the ground up!
All BMW i3's have BMW apps over USB, sure it works with Apple iOS. But not
with Android.
Spotify & BMW are a joke!!!
One of them needs to point the finger at the other, so we all know who is
to blame for this lack of coded issue.

This has been working and still works on my 2017 F30 330e along with Galaxy S6 phone. Is it just people with cars/iDrive units older than that are having issues?

Omibus

It's not working with cars that don't have the apps over Bluetooth option. But it is supposed to work with USB also as it was advertised. And since the connected classic app only supports USB connection and shows up Spotify that is a clear proof that it should work or had at some point already been working

Hi Guys and Girls,

Not sure if it will help but it is worth a try.

If somebody with an android phone can check if spotify will work after enable tethering bluetooth, thethring usb and usb debugger.

To enable please follow these steps below:

1. Enable usb debugger by pressing the settings button and scroll to phone info. Open phone info and go to software details then press buildnumber 7 times. A new hidden butten will apear in your settings menu. Press devoloping options and enable usb debugger.

2. Enable tethering. Press the settings button and enter tethring in the search bar. Now several tehtring options will apear. Enable bluetooth tethring and enable usb tethring. To enable usb tethring your usb cable must be connected to the car and your phone.

If you have done these steps the  try the following. Open spotify app/connected app on your phone while usb cable is connected to your phone and car. Then scroll in idrive to spotify and open spotify on the idrive.

Does it work now?

I would like to hear from you if this might does the trick.

Thanks guys I hoped it helped if not at least I tried.
