[AutoPlay] Option to toggle Autoplay on/off across all devices/platforms

The Autoplay setting isn't working for connected devices and the web player. We need the Autoplay setting to work the same as it does on desktop and when playing on the phone.

Updated on 2023-02-07

Hey folks,

The "Autoplay" setting was recently updated. The single "Autoplay" setting in the desktop and mobile apps will now enable or disable Autoplay across all devices on your account. This change makes it easier to manage instead of there being 2 different settings.

You only need to change the Autoplay setting in one of the apps, either desktop or mobile, and it will apply to your account on all devices including the Web Player and Spotify Connect devices.

You can read the support article for more information about the Autoplay feature.

Not being able to turn off autoplay everywhere is equal to me not being willing to continue as a premium customer. It is an essential core fuction!

I think Spotify needs a new option to disable autoLOADing the play queue with suggested content or not.
Even with AUTOPLAY off on my settings, Spotify still pre-loads a "suggested" playlist/queue, and spotify itself waits for me to select play, which is OK (ish)
.. but... the problem is Google Nest (etc) simply plays what's in the queue cos as far as its concerned, I added it there.
Even if Google KNEW the status of my autoplay, how does it know "I" didn't explicitly add to the queue.

So I think the only solutions are fairly simple and either....
Spotify to NOT actually automatically preload the queue with suggested music UNLESS autoplay is selected.
Or at least in addition to the existing "autoPLAY" option, ADD a NEW option (yes/no) to  autoLOAD the
queue with suggested music".

An update about "autoplay" while using Spotify Connect has been posted here. Please check it out for more info:

Summary: Vote for this idea here if you would like to see an option to turn it off

Autoplay should ALWAYS be an option in the settings! Why would you assume that everyone would want this, regardless of the device they're listening on? Please, it was fine before when autoplay was off by default. Don't force this feature on everyone.

This issue prompted me to finally set up my Community profile, so that should say something. Automatic autoplay for connected devices (Google Home Mini, in this case) simply ruins the listening experience. That simple. I haven't used my Home for days for this reason. Would love to see a fix.

Hey! Looks like that your idea is growing up fast and it's amazing! We are going to change its status to 'Good Suggestion' now and we hope it continues to be supported by more and more users.
Thanks again for your idea. We really appreciate it 🙂

It really is hilarious that you insist on calling it an idea when it really just is "please, for the love of Jimi Hendrix, remove the bug you introduced in a recent update that robbed us of THE core functionality we are paying for".

Thank you for the clarification. It's disappointing that this "idea" requires 180 upvotes for it to be even considered, when we shouldn't even have to explain that this can be a deal breaker for many people.

This issue makes me want to cancel my subscription. I am so bothered by random music played after I listen to an album. If I wanted shuffled music, I have plenty of ways to choose that. Please don't take away the one place I didn't have shuffled music before.

I used Spotify to play audiobooks for my kid on Sonos. I cannot do that anymore because after the audiobook random songs are playing. I have no idea why you removed the useful feature to stop at the end of an album or playlist playing on smart speakers like Sonos. I mean, that is what a playlist is made for: to just play those songs.

Even more irritating i think it’s to ask people to raise an idea to get back a feature I was using (like many others) for several years now.
