Change lyrics position

Put the lyrics back where they were, it's really annoying where they currently are (under the album cover and song name)

very minor thing to complain about but it's bothering me and some of my friends a LOT

Updated on 2025-07-08

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Idea Exchange, we're happy to announce that the Lyrics Icon should now be in its previous spot.

If you don't see the change, you can log out > back in to your account on Desktop in order to refresh Spotify.

Once again, thanks for helping us make Spotify better, by participating here on the Community.

I literally googled **bleep** and back to find some way to submit feedback.

Seriously change this back or it literally defeats the purpose of me paying for Spotify personally and my family plan will be cancelled.

Adding another issue I have with this feature, that now the lyrics are either in the small "now playing" window or you have to switch to full screen and you can't see anything else anymore. What was wrong with having the lyrics in the middle unit and still seeing the 'now playing' as well as the hotbar. There is more than enough space there.

I often put spotify on my larger second screen whilst cleaning or something and like seeing both the lyrics as well as the album info/cover.

Couldn't agree more. This change was completely unnecessary and only adds extra steps to view something that was easily accessible before. I personally like to have my queue and lyrics open at the same time while listening and making me have to open the sidebar to view the lyrics completely negates that. The UI was not cluttered before and looked and worked perfectly fine, why change it? Please fix this.

Shouldn't you improve the desktop app? You are always moving or removing features.

Where is the lyrics button? What's the idea of putting the lyric text down the cover and make us scroll down track after track?

This is the second time I got p!ssed by Spotify's UI changes. The first time was when they removed the Heart button from the list. It has been over a year and they just ignored the request to revert it back. I believe they'll just ignore this request as well. They never accept any "bring xxx back" requests.

They are trying to "fix" something that worked so well without any issue. The lyrics was one of the best and unique features in Spotify and now it's an ass. It's hard to not get emotional because now I get p!ssed off every single time when I want to check the lyrics. And see this hilarious broken UI when using Japanese:

I'm also an engineer in a big company. They probably have some stupid product managers keep proposing these garbage changes in some broken scrum sh!t and are so proud of these changes by checking some totally wrong or meaningless A/B testing data.
Spotify had some major layoffs in 2023, and it seems that they fired the wrong people. I know they are turning a profit, but the ones need to be fired are still in the company. You can see another example is the yearly Spotify Wrapped, it was so trash last year. Hope YouTube Music can make the features more complete and hurry up to catch up.

"The hotbar is literally large enough that you can place more than a single "Show the lyrics" button in it. Placing that button down there is not gonna mess up the whole area.

Another useless update that does not solve anything." thats what I thought aswell, please change it back

Completely agree with the people here - I haven't the faintest idea as to why someone in Spotify's development team decided this was a necessary change, but moving the lyrics button to the Now Playing view has completely broken the way I use Spotify.

I use lyrics regularly, and it was always convenient to have them readily available in the bottom bar. The lyrics would also automatically change based on the song, which was very nice. With this new update, the experience is horrible - not only do I now have to open the laggy mess that is Now Playing, but I also have to put the program into fullscreen, and click the lyrics button for every song I listen to, instead of it automatically doing so like before.

This update adds a ton of completely useless extra steps to using a nice feature. This change needs to be reversed. It's awful and doesn't improve anything in the program.

The lyrics are so important to me, and Spotify have, for some strange reason, made them so hard to find. Why try to mend something that was not broken? For many, the lyrics may not be that important, but I suffer from severe hearing loss, so lyrics are vital to me. Please restore them as soon as possible!

Came here just to say that.
