[Desktop] Add support for Apple Silicon (ARM64 on Mac)

Feature request:

Add support for Apple Silicon in a future Spotify release on Mac OS.

Apple have recently released a new generation of Macs based on their own Apple Silicon. I hope that Spotify will prioritize native support for this new CPU architecture.  If so the best music platform on the Mac, will continue running great natively on the new generation Mac hardware.

Hey everyone,

Thank you all for bringing your feedback to the Community Idea Exchange and participating in this Beta test!

Your input has been invaluable and helped us tweak the app to make full use of the new CPU architecture.

We're happy to announce that the app is now out of Beta and can be downloaded from our website. You should automatically get the correct version for your Mac's CPU and all updates will be automatic as well, just the way it was in the past.

This idea is now officially implemented! Thanks once more for all your votes and posts.

Happy listening! 🎶

So I dropped by, to see if there has been any movement, now that I ported my family to youtube premium and music service, I see new macs not being internal and I see new versions of apple silicon out, but yet, I see no movement on Spotify side. So, appears I made the correct decision. My sub will run out soon and won't renew, so, Spotify, thanks for nothing.

So, I tweeted to Spotify few hours back and they changed this ides to "Good Suggestion" with atleast 180 votes in 6 months. (slow claps)

Since...

  • The Spotify app crashes all the time under Rosetta
  • Many months in there's still no native app
  • Apple Music has Lossless and Spatial audio coming for free
  • It feels like Spotify is being petty and doesn't want to make an m1 version out of spite which just worsens how I think of the brand

I've cancelled my subscription and moved to Apple Music.

"Good Suggestion"

Is this a joke?!

Spotify is a joke 🙂

I'm beginning to think no one from Spotify actually reads these comments, because no one from Spotify has yet to respond. But here goes anyway:

These app crashes have prompted me to re-visit my local iTunes library, something I've been carefully curating over the last 10 years. I have enough music to play non-stop for 70 days before anything is repeated. Spotify is going to have to try a whole lot harder to re-sell their service to me now, but I think it's safe to say they'll be wasting their time. I have now cancelled premium, effective end of May. It's actually unlikely I'll even pay for Apple Music. The only reason I'm paying Netflix right now is because I don't own any decent movies & series, but my 80 year old father-in-law shares the account and watches it more than my wife and I so that's mostly why I still have it.

Spotify is the worst app developer I have ever seen. There is nothing innovative in any of the app features and they are so lazy to change anything at all. So I am 100% sure they will never bother to even try adding this support for M1.

I'm at my wits end with how often Spotify crashes on both my M1 MacBook Pro & MacBook Air.

It's been months' since the M1's release.  What the heck, Spotify?
