[Desktop] Option if Spotify links should open native Spotify app or Webplayer

Seems like Spotify keeps pushing this issue aside because not enough people are complaining about it. I've actually seen a good amount of posts on the community boards about it but none of them seem to have gained traction with the powers that be, claiming its a non-issue and the post gets closed. I disagree, wholeheartedly.

Please bring this option back! I don't use the web player... ever. And, I don't want to now have to start copying and pasting the links into spotify app. Call me lazy. The advanced settings used to have the option to have links open in the desktop app. But that option has recently disappeared. Seems like a very obvious and useful feature, and just strange to suddenly remove that functionality.

My friends and I are always trading spotify links via text and emails and it's incredibly frustrating that it now doesn't automatically open in the desktop app like it used to. If I say pretty please, with a link to a cherry on top, would you consider this a legitimate request?

Hey folks,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions on this one.

You should now have the option to open song links directly in the Spotify app!

Cheers 🙂

Was this ever solved?

It annoys the crap out of me. How hard can it be to diable the web player and make links open in the client instead.

Cmon Spotify, correct the problem NOW.

I have a problem with this option - it seems you need to change the preferences in the web player in order for this to work. However, as I am not using Flash, I have no access to the web player. I understand that you will probably not make a Flash-free webplayer for me, but is there any way to enable access to the preferences without having to install Flash?

I never got this working, for every link I see I have to type the artist in Spotify.

If I change the setting in play.spotify.com I get redirected to open.spotify.com the next time, and I have to click the "Play in spotify" button.

Why is it so hard to fix this?

Doesn't seem fixed for me.  I changed the option in the web player, but now when I click the link, instead of opening in the web player, it just opens a new tab, with another "open in spotify" button.  Annoying it doesn't just send the link direct to the desktop player.

@oryan_dunn what browser do you use?

oryan_dunn
Firefox mostly, otherwise, Edge.
osornios
Check in Options > Applications if 'spotify' is shown, and that it shows in Action 'Use Spotify (default)'.

Spotify is not listed in applications within Firefox.  Is there a way to add it there?  What about opening links directly to desktop Spotify from Edge?
