Let users turn off some or all desktop notifications, e.g. "Your friend ______ just joined Spotify."

So according to the @SpotifyCares Twitter account, there's no way at all to turn off desktop notifications. None. Which seems insane to me! Spotify is the only app that sees fit to blow up my OSX dock with notifications multiple times every week, yet there's no functionality to let me control which notifications I see - or even if I see them at all!

So, obviously:I'm proposing that Spotify let users control this! I, like most people, do not have a deep personal relationship with 100% of my Facebook friends, so I don't need to know whenever some random person I went to high school with gets Spotify. I have zero interest in sending them anything or interacting with them on Spotify in any way, so it benefits neither me nor Spotify to pop up that red notification and nag me to view it before it goes away.

Anyways, yeah! This all feels super obvious, but since the @SpotifyCares Twitter account told me to post this here, that's what I'm doing. "New idea:" STOP BUGGING ME WHEN PEOPLE I DON'T CARE ABOUT JOIN SPOTIFY. USE THE OSX DOCK NOTIFICATIONS SYSTEM RESPONSIBLY. Thank you.

Hey everyone. Now you can go to your the Notifications section of your Accounts page via Spotify.com and adjust both your in-app and email notifcations.

Yay! I just checked my Spotify settings and there's an Advanced option to hide Spotify to the system tray on close. So no more annoying unread alerts number on my desktop. I can concentrate on work again 🙂

Thanks Spotify.

I used to enjoy subscribing to a bunch of playlists so I could pull them up easily. Now, knowing I am going to BE SPAMMED TO HELL by their updates, only subscribing to playlists that I download and listen to on the daily. SCREW YOUR SPAMMY NOTIFICATIONS RUINING MY NOTIFICATIONS FEED !

I get the idea of not letting us turn these off... refreshing a playlist sends out notifications to users so they then pull up that playlist and you get their eyes and ears back. Unless of course they are subscribed to a bunch of playlists, are spammed to heck by those notifications, then just mass unsuscribe to all the playlists.

God dammit Spotify, it's been over three years now! When are you going to update this? Espacially the playlist update notifications are really annoying. I always have well over 99 notifications on my desktop and it is basically impossible to look through the notifications.

When are you going to fix this? It's been over three years now. Basically no one can handle +50 notifications a day.

Can you please at least turn off "X added a track to playlist Y" for all users ASAP?

?!

Status: Not right now

?!

Then when? Another 3 years? You **^$*%(()*^ big time!

I am surprised Spotify refuses to fix this. It shows a certain level of hostility for users, which is unusual when we are actually paid subscribers. No reason to accept this when there are a dozen other services offering the same thing.

+1.  This little red badge is so incredibly frustrating.  Please let us turn it off.

Within a few minutes of using this program, I was inundated with notifications for every single thing I did.  I scoured the settings for a way to turn it off, couldn't find one, googled the problem, and wound up here.  Now, I find out that it's going to be even worse than it already is if I ever subscribe to any playlist, and you have been "Not Right Now"ing this issue for 3 years?  Yeah, **bleep** you.  Thank god I found out before paying you any money.  Uninstalling.

How can this be so hard.

Me too. The only icon in my dock with a red badge is irritating. Sometimes I actually find myself quitting Spotify to clear the badge and listening to iTunes instead
