[Mobile] Screen always on Option

When the Spotify app is in focus keep the screen on and prevent it from locking. Just like in PowerAmp, this should be an optional setting.

It's really annoying to have to unlock the phone to skip tracks, or see the name of the current song or artist, especially when driving.

Hey folks!

Thanks for coming to the Idea Exchange.

With the release of Car View, your screen will always remain on when driving - or when turning it on manually in the settings.

When you connect your phone to your car’s Bluetooth, car view automatically turns on. You see larger, driver-friendly icons in the Now Playing view, and you can quickly change what plays with Choose Music at the bottom of the screen.

For more info about listening to Spotify in the car, check out this article

Thanks!

Same issue, and what's even worse is that the Car view cannot keep my screen on...

Hi @Claretnbluefonz,

This sound like  a nee idea. Please submit one on the new ideas section.

It's weird to see you said "how about a setting to not lock the screen if Spotify is playing. Then we can either have the setting off or on" is a new idea. You may notice that the title of this idea is "[Mobile] Screen always on Option", which is exactly what @Claretnbluefonz said as well as what I expected to see when this idea was marked as "implemented", doesn't it? The released Car view "solution" was not what we expected and more importantly, it doesn't solve the problem.

Hi @comaniac0422,

Sorry, you are right. The reason I got confused is that the implemented comment states that it's solved with car view, so it's related to driving. But the actual question is not related to driving. It's about keeping your device unlocked when you want to.

It is more or less possible when you switch to car view manually but then you are in car view and you don't want that, right?

Regards,

René

@rene01 No, they are still and have been replying in the thread I linked to that the problem doesn't go away after updating (and while I haven't added it there yet, it's still true for me, even though I've updated). The issue persists, and Spotify persists in ignoring it. The problem as pretty clearly stated in that thread, is that the screen still auto-locks when Spotify is connect to a power source and opened to either Now Playing or Car View when it did not auto-lock in those views before. Spotify offered a 'solution,' not a single person on the thread said it solved or even addressed the problem. Even the OP explicitly said it didn't work, but Spotify marked it 'Solved.'  While Spotify responded again acknowledging the problem, we've seen no solution, no update, and no official status change. I came over here to see this idea that allegedly addresses that problem marked as implemented when, once again, it was not.  What other users are describing is the same thing. Not sure why you seem keen to consider the problem unclear (and yet somehow also solved?) or the 'idea' implemented. Spotify seems eager to consider this issue closed as well, which is bizarre and disappointing.

@Rene01,

I don't want to lose the focus but I personally don't against the Car view. What is annoying me is that even when I am driving and using the Car view, the screen still locked. That's why I said this doesn't solve the problem. As @Claretnbluefonz has mentioned several times, this problem happened after an update in this or last month. So I'd more prefer to say this is a bug report instead of proposing a new idea.

Hi @Rene01.

As pointed out by @comaniac0422 and @celiajean, this is not a new feature request. Car view has never resolved the issue. Previously, if my phone was attached to a power source and had the now playing or car view screen open the phone did not lock. Now, following updates in the last few months, the phone locks when in the same situation. This is definately a bug following an update and should be viewed as one by Spotify. My suggestion of a setting was just me trying to find a way that Spotify can resolve the issue quickly as it seems to be taking a long time for the issue to even be acknowledged by Spotfiy as a bug. The sooner this is resolved the better as it is something that Spotify broke in an update and is obviously causing a lot of people an issue. The number of regular replies to this thread is proof of that.

Thanks

Claretnbluefonz

Has this been resolved in the latest update? I can't see any new settings but have not had a chance to test if the new release has fixed it

Bring the old functionality back! Sure keep carview as an option. But I want to be able to keep the screen on when charging! Swiping to the next song without having to wake up the display was one of the key features when I got Spotify instead of Apple Music...

This does not make sense! There should be the old option back!

I do not always listen to music in my car - yet i want my screen on while on wireless charge?!
