[Mobile] Screen always on Option

Status: implemented

When the Spotify app is in focus keep the screen on and prevent it from locking. Just like in PowerAmp, this should be an optional setting.

 

It's really annoying to have to unlock the phone to skip tracks, or see the name of the current song or artist, especially when driving.

Thanks for coming to the Idea Exchange. 

 

With the release of Car View, your screen will always remain on when driving - or when turning it on manually in the settings.

 

When you connect your phone to your car’s Bluetooth, car view automatically turns on. You see larger, driver-friendly icons in the Now Playing view, and you can quickly change what plays with Choose Music at the bottom of the screen.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned the "Keep Screen On" app. Yes, it should be built into Spotify (like it is in Pandora) so we don't have to install yet another app, but I will vouch for the KSO app, it works perfectly with no issues so far (several months at least). You just select which apps you want to prevent screen lock from happening when focused, and voila. Problem solved. I drive all the time now w/Spotify up and I can indeed swipe to skip etc. Hope that helps. -C

Thank you for the tip! I tried one app on Play Store called "Keep Screen On" and it didn't have the option to select which apps you want to prevent the screen lock for. What is the name of the software publisher for the app you are referring to?

The one I'm using is "Keep Screen On" v1.36 by Active Mobile Applications LLC.

You just find it in the app tray, it shows a list of all your apps, you tap the one(s) you want to keep the screen on & that's about it.

Spotify on iOS has this feature since the dawn of time. I don't understand why is this still not implemented in Android version.. 😕

Man alive! I can't believe Spotify can't do this! They might if someone dies attempting to unlock their phone while driving just to skip a track.

This should work the way it used to in iOS, where if you are plugged in and are playing music, the screen should not turn off. Or if there's a demand for it to turn off automatically, then there should be an option to switch this behaviour on and off. I shouldn't have be changing my phone settings just to keep the screen on (and remember to change it back afterwards).

Up until recently when Spotify was playing and the phone was charging the screen would not lock which made it great in the car. This has now changed. Please can we have a setting to stop the screen from locking if Spotify is open and the phone is charging. Thanks
