[Music] Local FLAC Playback

A member of spotify team said to separate the FLAC idea post, into FLAC local playback and FLAC streaming. Someone else can create a FLAC streaming post, as I'm only after local playback. The original post with the 2 ideas in one post is here.

Vote for this post if you want LOCAL PLAYBACK OF FLAC FILES ONLY.

WHY WE NEED SPOTIFY TO PLAY OUR FLAC COLLECTION
Spotify already plays ALAC, all be it with stability problems, but what we really need is local FLAC playback because FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless audio encoding. 7digital has recently started selling FLAC yet spotify can't play them. Why not???

The most commercially successful band on the planet (The Beatles), have released official remastered versions of all albums in 24bitFLAC format on a usb device.

Numerous bands have sold albums in FLAC format through their websites. FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless encoding, so please start supporting local playback of FLAC.

Another idea that is important to me is fixing the appalling "set the same volume level for all tracks", which doesn't take into account the subtle volume transients of an album that audio engineers spend hours working on. The following volume normalization method retains the intended volume differences as part of the album.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Ideas Exchange and sharing your feedback.

We're happy to inform you that this is now possible, so you can enjoy your local FLAC files through Spotify! Make sure to add them to Your Library, if you haven't already.

Thanks again for making Spotify better!

Come on already!

This is just pure bureaucracy from Spotify. The ' end-all'  music app that does not support FLAC? This should have not even been requested, this should have been in Spotify from day 1. And they should have a higher paid subscription option where all music is lossless.

But they do have time to remove cache size option and add video ad player in desktop app.

Really? This isn't an option yet? I have quite a hit of flac audio and am disappointed, and would be very interested in the ability to play it back over sorority. Until then I will have to move my subscription to another service that supports this.

Bring FLAC support into Spotify!

Deezer Elite, Qobuz Hi-fi, Tidal Hi-fi, they're all gonna do lossless. Don't be an outsider, please Spotify become a leader in lossless music.

Yeah if I could play FLAC locally, I could use Spotify as my only music player, rather than having to constantly switch around... My own FLACs when I'm at home, Spotify's MP3 version on the go would be ideal!

Spotify,

Please bring lossless quality audio to your app! I am quite confident that many of us have hi-fi stereos, would appreciate this feature and would pay premium price for it.

Maybe a bit late, but yeah: Bring FLAC support into Spotify.  Spotify is mostly an incredible revolution, except for little things like this that are boggling; it should already have something like this.

I don't get why it's not done already.

Android has FLAC support since 3.1

For iOS there's even a free audio engine for FLAC playback.

Desktop shouldn't be a problem at all.

+1 to the request of FLAC playback of local files. I have gone to the trouble of encoding my entire bought collection in FLAC because I have a high end system and fussy ears. I am OK with 320 on all systems except my reference system - please enable this capability for my local files.

On another note, not a Lossless solution but a different approach to increase quality and fidelity. This is for Windows Desktop only though.

Firstly get JRiver Media Center and install the WDM driver. Then you have at your hands quite possibly the best software DSP and up sampler. About to get even better in version 22.

Download and install Fidelizer - It works wonders with the Windows OS, it prioritises and manipulates running background services to optimise and bypass alot of Micrsoft's interference when playing music. Sort of like the Pure Direct button on AV Receivers.

With Fidelizer installed and running automatic everytime you start your PC up as it integrates itself into Windows as a Service and running both Spotify and JRiver side by side, change your default playback device to JRiver as your default playback device. Some tuning is obviously required such as if you using direct sound/default device...bad, WASAPI...better, ASIO...BEST. Set to 192000k Sample Rate and tune your EQ to your desire and select the JRiver DSP. Most modern Motherboards have semi decent DAC's onboard, especially ASUS. But if you running a DAC then to your AMP or AVR, I cannot Audibly differentiate between MP3, AAC or FLAC. Only DSD sounds better.

You can then also get to watch cool Milkdrop2 Visualizations on JRiver and control you music selection and playlists from your phone. Great for parties 🙂 Big TV or Projector displaying HD Visuals and listening to really high definition music.

This is my interim solution until Spotify releases Lossless. Also, it doesn't have to be FLAC, there is plenty of new and exciting Lossless technologies out there. But FLAC is the free one.

Hope this helps some of you, let me know if anyone already does this or if you need more detailed explanation.

Cheers
