[Music] Local FLAC Playback

A member of spotify team said to separate the FLAC idea post, into FLAC local playback and FLAC streaming. Someone else can create a FLAC streaming post, as I'm only after local playback. The original post with the 2 ideas in one post is here.

Vote for this post if you want LOCAL PLAYBACK OF FLAC FILES ONLY.

WHY WE NEED SPOTIFY TO PLAY OUR FLAC COLLECTION
Spotify already plays ALAC, all be it with stability problems, but what we really need is local FLAC playback because FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless audio encoding. 7digital has recently started selling FLAC yet spotify can't play them. Why not???

The most commercially successful band on the planet (The Beatles), have released official remastered versions of all albums in 24bitFLAC format on a usb device.

Numerous bands have sold albums in FLAC format through their websites. FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless encoding, so please start supporting local playback of FLAC.

Another idea that is important to me is fixing the appalling "set the same volume level for all tracks", which doesn't take into account the subtle volume transients of an album that audio engineers spend hours working on. The following volume normalization method retains the intended volume differences as part of the album.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for coming to the Ideas Exchange and sharing your feedback.

We're happy to inform you that this is now possible, so you can enjoy your local FLAC files through Spotify! Make sure to add them to Your Library, if you haven't already.

Thanks again for making Spotify better!

Please add this, I have almost my entire music collection in FLAC and only want to use FLAC, I don't want a separate collection with mp3... it would be awesome to be able to use spotify for all my music needs.

I have some FLAC files on my computer, too, but Spotify forces me to convert them to MP3. Please add FLAC support!

Another request for local FLAC support

I would be okay with it if the local FLAC playback becomes a Unlimited/Premium feature.

My entire CD collection is stored in FLAC files (50GB of FLAC compressed level 5), it's really annoying to switch between multiple players.

All devices (even my TV lol) I have in my home(+car) can play the FLAC files.

All software (except Spotify as the only one) on my  computer can play FLAC files.

It might not be as popular as MP3, but for us who have paid for the CDs, we have it in FLAC files.
(I haven't yet seen a normal person ripping their CD collection to MP3 files... )

I'm not such an audiophile that I demand high-end audio streaming, but to future-proof my personal collection, I'm copying my CDs into FLAC. I would prefer not to have to to copy them into MP3 or some other lossy format, too. Google Music does support FLAC, a factor that's pushing me that direction. I'm generally happy with Spotify, but I'm not convinced the company is irreplacable. (I don't use the social features that would make it harder for me to uproot.)

I'd REALLY appreciate FLAC support, Spotify is the ultimate media player and this will only make it that much better.

Hi to anyone listening. I've created a duplicate idea in protest to this sitting here for so long. Give it some kudos to show we mean business.

About 99% of my music collection are FLACs, I only rip CDs into FLACs, please please implement this. It really isn't hard...

jfabian77

OK, seriously, this needs to happen. FLAC is not "realtively uncommon" as artists are selling their music online in this format at this very moment. At least for local playback.

This would be a nice option. FLAC is a free codec and wouldn't bee too difficult to implement. It is very annoying to use two separate players for audio.
