[Music] Local FLAC Playback

A member of spotify team said to separate the FLAC idea post, into FLAC local playback and FLAC streaming. Someone else can create a FLAC streaming post, as I'm only after local playback. The original post with the 2 ideas in one post is here.

WHY WE NEED SPOTIFY TO PLAY OUR FLAC COLLECTION
Spotify already plays ALAC, all be it with stability problems, but what we really need is local FLAC playback because FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless audio encoding. 7digital has recently started selling FLAC yet spotify can't play them. Why not???

The most commercially successful band on the planet (The Beatles), have released official remastered versions of all albums in 24bitFLAC format on a usb device.

Numerous bands have sold albums in FLAC format through their websites. FLAC is the defacto standard for lossless encoding, so please start supporting local playback of FLAC.

Another idea that is important to me is fixing the appalling "set the same volume level for all tracks", which doesn't take into account the subtle volume transients of an album that audio engineers spend hours working on. The following volume normalization method retains the intended volume differences as part of the album.

Also wanted to add my support for this...

Every good music player out there has FLAC support these days.  This is the main reason I have not switched over from Pandora One. (I know, I'm comparing apples to oranges here, but having local FLAC support would have pushed me to switch a few years ago.)  On top of that, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to implement.  (I have no experience to base this assumption on what so ever, but for a large company that has many decent coders, this seems pretty doable.  Long and short of it, if you added this, you would have at least one more paying subcriber right here... and I'm assuming many more besides myself.

Yes it's the one feature that keeps me from using my Spotify as the one and only audio player on my mac.

I need this feature badly. I have thousands of flacs, and re-encoding them all to mp3 would be very time consuming.

I have 200 GB of music in FLAC format, and... with spotify... this is only garbage. How many more comments does spotify team need to implement this simple functionality. What are you waiting guys, that someone else from another service do this before you???, then, that day, you are gonna lose me as a client 😄

I was very suprised when I realised that Spotify could not play FLAC. I can not understand how this suggestion can have "Not right now " status.

FLAC/Ogg Vorbis is open source. I don't think there's any cost involved in implementing it. Dunno why we have to whine in the forums to get support for it, but I will. Whaaaa, please support LOCAL FLAC PLAYBACK, Spotify!

Please add flac support for the local player.  pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease.  As a premium member it's probably going to be a dealbreaker for me to unsubscribe.... and I don't want to unsubscribe!  😞
